All In Good Time

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under the sun” (Ecc. 3:1)

Nothing lasts forever: all things eventually come to pass.

This is both comforting and dismaying, in the sense that, if things are bad right now, eventually they will be good; but if things are good right now, eventually they will be… not so good.

It rains on the just and the unjust alike, and everyone experiences various hills and valleys as life goes on.

The stock market rises… and then crashes… and then rises again…

The undefeated team… eventually loses…

The winless team… eventually wins…

The sun shines for a while… and then it rains… and then the sun comes back out…

There is a time for all things…

“There is a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what has been planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away; a time to tear, and a time to sow; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.” (Ecc. 3:2-8)

Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do. No need for an explanation; no need to seek approval.

The thing you have to do may inadvertently, negatively affect someone else. It’s just the time of the season – it’s not malice. The opportunity will come (in time) to smooth things back out. But in the meantime, you cannot allow someone else to make you feel guilty for doing what you have to do – especially if it is the work of the Lord.

Whether you are currently trudging in the deep valley of despair or soaring high on eagle’s wings, the advice is the same: keep your focus on the Lord above.

He will see you safely to the other side.
