Talk About Gumption

“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the King: O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to explain ourselves to you in this matter… Our God is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire and out of your hand… But even if He doesn’t, know this, O King, that we will never worship your gods, nor the golden statue that you have set up.” (Daniel 3:16-18)

Let’s set the stage.

The notoriously ruthless Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar was known for his hot temper. In frequent fits of rage, he would ceaselessly send his subjects to quite unpleasant deaths.

In the case of our 3 brave heroes, a fiery furnace that tortured its victims for endless days before finally claiming their lives was what the king had in mind.

The three men knew what awaited them if they would not renounce God and revere the king, but their faith was too strong to stifle.

They could not bring themselves to worship a false god. So they threw caution to the wind and defied the king.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood their ground and didn’t feel the need to explain themselves as to why they wouldn’t worship the king.

They only explained they would worship God – exclusively.

Not, “God and…”

But, “God only…”

And they knew that if God wanted to, He could easily spare them from such a horrible fate.

And He did.

“Not a hair on their heads was burned.” (Daniel 3:25)

True faith like this – without a shadow of any doubt, hesitation, or equivocation – is what God truly desires. (Mark 11:22-26)

God wants you to know that no matter how dire the situation, how difficult the circumstance, how impossible the problem, He’s got your back.

“With God, nothing is impossible.” (Matthew 19:26)

Focus on your problems, your faith will forestall. Focus on God, your troubles will fall.

Amen!
