Heaven’s Heros

“Through faith they conquered kingdoms, administered justice, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight” (Heb 11:33-34)

Hebrews 11 is often referred to as the “Hall of Fame of Faith.”

These men and women are honored because of the great victories God achieved through their faith.

God alone deserves the praise for the miracles, but these rare regents of God are rightfully recognized for their tremendous faith which was expressed through their obedience.

By faith, Abel offered a worthy sacrifice to God. His brother Cain became envious, which led him to murder, but Abel is still remembered today for his faith.

On God’s order…

Abraham willingly prepared to sacrifice his son Isaac.

Noah readily built the ark.

Moses led the nation of Israel out of captivity in Egypt.

Each of these feats were accomplished through faith.

These men’s legacies live on because of the strength of their faith; and their obedience way back when still impacts our world today.

But what else made these people special?

The core element of their success was their faith.

That’s it.

Other than that, they were plain, ordinary people, just like everyone else.

If they had a “superpower,” it was consistency.

Trust, obey, repeat.

They did not base their faith on their feelings. Whether they agreed or not with God’s orders, they obeyed nonetheless.

Other contributing factors include endurance, patience, resolve, and dependence upon the Lord.

These are people who “remained faithful to the end.” ( 2 Tim. 4:7)

This type of faith does not happen overnight. It takes effort; it takes time. It takes patience, persistence, and willing obedience.

But the thing about faith is that those who have it never need to say so. It manifests itself through a person’s actions.

In this way we know that the members of the hall of fame belong there, as well as many others who have lived since.

The hall of fame is an exclusive club; invite only. And the only vote that matters is God’s.

Let Him see your faith by the way you live your life, and then you can take your seat at the table.
